RE: Frankenstorm - AnthonyG - 10-28-2012 We learned from Irene when it hit in aug 2011 and we went without power for close to 5 days, we had an old generator that the engine was seized. After things went back to normal I ordered a 5000 watt generator from amazon, brand new and still in box. Like gunnen mentioned they aren't the greatest solution long term with fuel also generators need oil changes often under continuous use. Mines not too bad on fuel at 50 percent load mine will run 12 hours straight and would give enough power to support 5-6 fridges and freezers . If it comes down to being a long term power outage I will use it for a few hours at a time to rejuvenate the fridge and freezer so nothing really thaws or goes bad. My town has issues with flooding but where my house is we dont flood luckily, I am however concerned with damage from wind and such. Jersey is not known to get hurricanes and to deal with crazy winds so especially with newer construction the wind classifications on houses are not very good. As far as food, supplies and guns im pretty much good on all that, I dont think anyone will try to loot me if this gets really drawn out but who knows lol. All I know is this storm is suppose to make Irene look like childs play. RE: Frankenstorm - twisteroo - 10-28-2012 It has just been raining here since late Friday. No winds yet and the temp has dropped. I should probably get a couple of cans of gas for the generator just for the hell of it, I might need them this winter anyway. I'm sure if I looked on I-90 all the power company trucks are headed east. I'm gonna run out and buy bread and milk this morning. I don't need it but it is mandatory that you buy bread and milk whenever a storm is coming. RE: Frankenstorm - Twitchin Kitten - 10-28-2012 We got the obligatory bread and milk yesterday. Mom is pooh-poohing this thing and thinks things will be fine by Monday. I want to slap her. Anthony, you might want to recheck your hurricane and bad storm history for this area. RE: Frankenstorm - Medicine Woman - 10-28-2012 We got a high wind warning starting tomorrow 5 pm to 11 am tuesday. A lot of our state was destroyed by Irene, but this looks like just a rain/high wind event up here. Not very worried. Bringing the cold frame in, tying the compost spinner to the tree, laying down the tools and putting extra wood on the tarp to keep the firewood covered. Not really stocking up on anything. RE: Frankenstorm - FreudianSlip - 10-28-2012 I am inland, so we will not get the brunt of it. It has been raining steadily since yesterday morning. Plus it has gotten damn cold. Friday we had our second day of 80 degree Indian Summer. Right now it is 40. Supposedly we will be getting a lot more rain and high winds mid week. We rarely lose power here. I think I have lost power 3 times in the 20 years I have lived here. And one of them was that time a few years back when the grid went down and the whole northeast went dark for a few hours. RE: Frankenstorm - twisteroo - 10-28-2012 OK, I'm drunk and waiting....now what? RE: Frankenstorm - Twitchin Kitten - 10-28-2012 Hurricane party? Don't you have a mess of friends to invite over and hang with? I'll hang online with ya for a bit. We just gassed up the vehicles and that's it. We'll hunker down now and just wait. I just hope the power stays on. I can deal with the flooded basement if the power stays on. The talking heads on TV keep going on as if the power is going to go out on purpose for this one. We bought a tarp in case the tree splits and destroys the roof. At least I can cover the house. We'll return it if we don't need it. RE: Frankenstorm - Twitchin Kitten - 10-28-2012 Fuckers are already messing with the internet. My super high speed is worth shit right now. Pages load forever, choppy graphics and more. Bitch storm wont' even let me mess around online until the bad stuff comes. RE: Frankenstorm - twisteroo - 10-28-2012 Party? Yeah, I drink alone. RE: Frankenstorm - Twitchin Kitten - 10-28-2012 The Mexican's across the street decided NOW is a good time to get the chipper and chain saw and start trimming trees. Bastards - we were all prepared to hunker down in quiet and have a little relaxation ifyouknowwhatImean |
