RE: Sometimes luck smiles - Twitchin Kitten - 10-25-2012 I'm already banging my own bass player thankyouverymuch. RE: Sometimes luck smiles - AnthonyG - 10-26-2012 I have been playing drums on and off for about 13 years now and you gotta be careful they can make or break your band depending on their attitude and their style. RE: Sometimes luck smiles - LKTraz - 10-26-2012 I spoke with a potential drummer today and set him up to audition tomorrow. After he does his thing and takes off we'll discuss how he did and our impressions about him then decide whether we will take him on or keep searching. Forrest has feelers out on 8 other potentials so we want to try and get a couple to audition. That is unless the guy tomorrow turns out to be a good fit and blows us away with his skills Yeah Anthony I know. I've been playing in bands for 40 years now and I've seen plenty of drummers that just seem to have one quirk or another that makes them unsuitable for a given project. RE: Sometimes luck smiles - John L - 10-27-2012 Most people don't realize it, but the 'time keeper' plays an absolute and essential role. After all, he keeps the beat on time. I always admired John Bonham for being able to do this so effortlessly, and not be in everyone's face. RE: Sometimes luck smiles - LKTraz - 11-24-2012 UPDATE: After auditioning several drummers (some good...some stinkers) we found our match right in our own back yard (so to speak)! He works with our one friend who played bass for one of Forrest's old bands. Stosh just happened to ask him if he knew of a drummer who was looking for a band and he said "Yeah...me." He came on down and jammed with us for about 2 hours. We still had 2 other guys to audition, just to be fair to them, and sent him off with lots of smiles and good comments. The one never showed and the other was damn good but didn't really have an attitude that made us feel confident. After the guy left we took a vote and Drew won unanimous support! Kinda an odd thing is that for all intents and purposes most would think that he wouldn't fit when you consider that Steve is 61...Forrest is 56...Jack just turned 55 and I'm 54 and Drew is 19! BUT......he hangs out with folks 30 and up, prefers classic rock over newer material, tends bar part time at an Elks Lodge (older patrons) and works with Stosh who is 55. The guy has a fantastic attitude and does his homework. He told us he downloaded the songs we gave him to use for audition and listened to each one a minimum of 10 times then sat at his kit and worked on them prior to auditioning. Gotta love someone with that kind of work ethic. He also does some DJ work on the side and so is familiar with much of the material on our playlist so he should be up to speed in no time at all! Next week we intend to snap some band pics and see if we can record 3 tunes for a demo. Forrest has a nice porta studio digital recorder which can do up to 16 tracks. We've mated it with my Mackie mixing console and it works great. Who needs a studio when you have all the gear between band members? I'll post the tracks once we do a final mix and upload them to PodSnack. FULL SPEED AHEAD!!!!!! RE: Sometimes luck smiles - Twitchin Kitten - 11-24-2012 Congrats! That wasn't too long finding a good fit! RE: Sometimes luck smiles - LKTraz - 11-25-2012 Not compared with the last few times spent on drummer searches. I really feel good with this band! RE: Sometimes luck smiles - LKTraz - 12-02-2012 We had our first full practice with Drew behind the drum kit yesterday and recorded 3 songs as a rough demo. We're going to put them up on the website as soon as Drew does a little editing and puts them into mp3 format. If I didn't know better it sounded like we've been together for a while! Today we went up to Centralia (that's the place where the mine fire has been burning since the early 60's) and took some band pics. Here's the group pic we're going to use for now: [attachment=2285] From left to right.......... Forrest: Lead and rhythm guitar, lead, backup and harmony vocals Me: Bass guitar, lead, backup and harmony vocals Steve: Lead and rhythm guitar, backup vocals Drew: Drums, backup vocals Jack: Keyboards RE: Sometimes luck smiles - twisteroo - 12-02-2012 What a motley crue. Hey!!! That would be an awesome name for a band!!! Feel free to use it if you would like. RE: Sometimes luck smiles - LKTraz - 12-04-2012 Drew sent the mp3 files and I loaded them to PodSnack.
