RE: Anybody watching the idiot jump out from space? - Twitchin Kitten - 10-14-2012 Do you have your license yet? RE: Anybody watching the idiot jump out from space? - Gunnen4u - 10-15-2012 Why is he an idiot? ![]() Imagine being able to bail of low orbit spacecraft during emergencies. That was part of why he did this. Data from his jump is supposed to be used for researching that very possibility! The revised figures for his terminal velocity are now: Mach 1.24, or 833.9 mph. RE: Anybody watching the idiot jump out from space? - LH - 10-15-2012 I wonder what would happen if he hit a duck. RE: Anybody watching the idiot jump out from space? - Twitchin Kitten - 10-16-2012 With all the prep he had to do to get out of that capsule, I just don't see how this can be an emergency measure to bail out at low orbit. Astronaut suits would have to become very cumbersome again and the possibility of any of them being in any position to properly inflate, pressurize and all the other things he had to do to get out would not be possible unless the "emergency" is a very low level one where time is on your side. At the rate of speed rockets go out, I don't see that happening. This guy was in a balloon that took hours to get up there, not seconds. Most emergencies in space crafts at that altitude have been explosions and you're left looking for the remains anyway. RE: Anybody watching the idiot jump out from space? - Gunnen4u - 10-16-2012 Great. And the Wright brothers shouldn't have bothered since he'd just crash anyway, especially in the tedious and cumbersome baby steps of progress. I just don't see how their craft could fly. Did it strike you that they would be wearing proper suits while flying, and that the limitations on what they have to do now, are tomorrow's progress? Nah, it just ain't worth it, since you know, shit just blows up anyhow. And he is an idiot, right? Cynics and downers aside, I still think that even doing this for the sake of was awesome, and furthermore, he went over 800mph just falling! If you were to consider it something only out of pure adventure, it is a healthy sign of things. The moment mankind stopped doing stuff like this just to test the boundaries of what anyone can accomplish, is the moment we are a completely dead and stagnate society (as opposed to mostly brain dead and stagnate right now). RE: Anybody watching the idiot jump out from space? - Twitchin Kitten - 10-16-2012 Well, now you've changed my mind. Thanks. Welcome to the UK 'Health and Safety Policy' RE: Anybody watching the idiot jump out from space? - Gunnen4u - 10-16-2012 UGH! I've only read about that horror, and not experienced it, thankfully. |
