RE: The Completely Pointless Thread II - Twitchin Kitten - 08-21-2013 (08-21-2013, 05:17 PM)Twitchin Kitten Wrote:(08-21-2013, 04:35 PM)Rhubarb Wrote: It's been deleted Oh the dog house link! We we got it home last night and I scrubbed it this morning. I need to stain it so it doesn't look so worn in the places the stain wore off and I want to flip the floor boards so the scratches / gouges are not under her. I also need some nuts and bolts to put it together and a little roof repair because there is black mold on it that I want out of there. About two hours work and it'll be good as new for her. I'll take pictures. RE: The Completely Pointless Thread II - Twitchin Kitten - 08-24-2013 Well, it rained last night and broke the sweatbox called NJ. Nice out and I'm glad. Got a fundraiser to go to where our fave rockabilly band is playing and I was not in the mood to do it in a humidity laced day. Not sure if we'll see the restored bass yet though. I think it's still being put together. You guys got anything fun planned for today? RE: The Completely Pointless Thread II - TenFour - 08-24-2013 I went to see elysium last night, i was one big ass liberal pandering fucking bullshit movie, i got all the subliminals and i almost walked the fuck out about 3/4 of the way through the movie. 1) People only commit crimes because they are poor and underprivileged 2) all rich people are evil 3) free healthcare for everyone yeah fuck that movie. RE: The Completely Pointless Thread II - Twitchin Kitten - 08-24-2013 Oh I hate that shit too. Just make a good movie and leave politics out of it. Make a political movie and just be fair - leave your personal opinions out of it thankyouverymuch. RE: The Completely Pointless Thread II - AnthonyG - 08-24-2013 Was the fundraiser, Chelsea Delivers Hope? Matt wound up working later than expected. It was some kind of gathering after a parade at the Lakehurst fire house. RE: The Completely Pointless Thread II - Twitchin Kitten - 08-25-2013 So I spend the day painting and refinishing the roof on the dog house. Matt went to Home Depot for a hunk of wood for the roof and new shingles. He decides to go "fancy" and get the 'dimensional' things. WRONG. Bad idea. Go simple. After trying to put the frame back on the roof, the shingles are too thick where they overlap because instead of being single layers each one is twice as thick as normal. Gotta get new shingles tomorrow. I also need another quart of stain/paint for touching up and other things that are just soaking it in. It'll be done tomorrow night I think. It can dry now and set nicely until then. So far Daisy likes having a house. She keeps lying in there without the floor or roof on it

You have misunderstood the genius that is Blomkamp. The movie itself is set in a future where open borders and a flood of immigration have reduced America to one vast third world shithole, while the people who run things have made tons of money off the whole venture and now live up in gated communities away from the mess of the unwashed. Basically is it a movie on what will happen when America reaches such a point of open borders and degradation, and the consequences that will be had for those who, while engineering things thus for some supposed ideal, still shut themselves off from it to preserve their own social/economic class. Blomkamp is anything but a left winger. Critics either understand and do not like the movie, or don't understand it all so they foist their own critiques and understanding of it on others and the movie itself. Quote:Similarly, Elysium is another Malthusian tale about open borders, set in a dystopian 2154. By then, Los Angeles has been completely overrun by Mexicans, who have turned it into an endless, dusty slum that looks remarkably like urban Mexico today. (Blomkamp filmed for four months in Mexico City.) http://takimag.com/article/elysium_neill_blomkamp_fools_the_critics_again_steve_sailer/print#axzz2d1m7U9wX RE: The Completely Pointless Thread II - Gunnen4u - 08-25-2013 The smartphone has had social consequences that will be the death of traditional society as culture plummets into a virtual world of false livelihoods and identities, centered around instant feedback and ego boosting. People will create lies out of their lives and become spectators to their own existence. So focused are they/will be around their phones and social networking/staying connected that they will cease to actually not live in the moment. Social networking for the few cognizant types has had profound usefulness and power, but, as usual, the public, the mob, the most of the population, has taken it and put it to ill use with ill effects. I want the power grid to be destroyed. I love my smart phone but I do not let it rule my life. I find it funny that the 'drones' cannot put it down. I'm in a concert, they're in the row in front of me on Facebook! People walking down the street not looking where they're going, most likely on stupid Facebook too. They can't let it let alone turn it off for a couple hours! It's like a mob mentality like you say. They're afraid they'll "miss something" if not connected to the frivolous chatter online. Proper conversation ceases to exist. You want the power grid to be destroyed, I want facebook to go down forever along with the other insipid social network sites. |
