RE: Frankenstorm - Twitchin Kitten - 11-03-2012 Keansburg is a shit hole and it's not on a barrier island. There are no reports of looting here in my area and north up in Point Pleasant or south of me. We're relatively civilized. My power issue is not due to a downed line. There's only 3 houses on the block. We drove around last night to see if it's only us and it's a few others internally as well. I got a human on the line and he said it's that we're on a different circuit, not a different 'grid' or transfer station/generator. RE: Frankenstorm - AnthonyG - 11-03-2012 I know for a fact after talking to someone last night there has been looting on barrier islands however I cant give any detail , in Atlantic city area looting has been reported though you can Google it, and it makes sense because the area around all the casino's has always been a dump. I love reading the jcp&l and other power provider twitters and how people complain about not seeing any of the providers trucks, they don't realize that power issues for them can stem from miles away. Power providers want customers power on more then the customers do , they lose money every minute lights aren't on. RE: Frankenstorm - LKTraz - 11-03-2012 If you look up at the utility poles you'll see what look like big segmented ceramic pieces on certain ones. These are fuses and I'd bet that one of them in the transmission line to your circuit is blown. If you spot one that's either singed or cracked then you've found the culprit. Should you find one, the pole will have a metal plate with a bunch of numbers on it. Write them down then call the electric company, give them the numbers and tell them you think you've spotted a blown line fuse. Once they check it out it's a 3 minute job to replace it. [attachment=2279] The one with the small wires at the top and bottom is the fuse. RE: Frankenstorm - Twitchin Kitten - 11-04-2012 We don't have those around here, LK. Besides that, I'm NOT going around doing their job for them. There is no excuse for power to be out this long when all around us it's on. Yeah it's bad here, but they got Manhattan up online pronto and 4 major tunnels pumped out all in less than 4 days. We're on day 7 of no power here in a city of 100,000. I feel like we're living on the Little House on the Prairie. Oh and Pat Mannix, if you're watching this thread, like I KNOW you are - "your" house is fine. But you ain't getting it. Make sure you make the next two court dates up here in NJ. Those warrants are going to keep piling up if you don't. RE: Frankenstorm - AnthonyG - 11-05-2012 Anywhere there is pole and it sends power to an individual house there will be a fuse like that, if power runs underground there will most likely be none of those. Power companies work in an order of getting biggest clusters online first, if your saying its basically three houses without power its going to kill the priority of getting that section fixed. Fixing Manhattan was alot easier then the suburban area's because the failure area's are few and easy to locate, route 9 is a prime example in old bridge I saw something like 8 downed pole within a half mile section, the time and man power needed to fix those and restring wire is retarded long. RE: Frankenstorm - Twitchin Kitten - 11-05-2012 My friend works for Con Edison for 27 years now. He explained exactly what's going on. What is going on around here is called bullshit. Plain and simple. News shows are not even bothering to report the outages for JCPL anymore. ALL the other ones are being reported and those people in more heavily populated areas are showing numbers with much, much less people without power than down here and I doubt our numbers include the shore. That giant convoy of power trucks went over the Seaside bridge on Saturday. Do not tell me there isn't enough manpower anymore. We see power trucks in parking lots with drivers sleeping for hours. We called the power company and got a belligerent bitch saying the poor guys are working 16 hour days and they need their sleep. Fuck that. That gives them 8 hours sleep and that's WAY more than any of us are getting right now. Patience is at a premium now. It's not just my block, but the entire inner core of the community that is out. The perimeter, the main roads and shopping centers are all online now. RE: Frankenstorm - Gunnen4u - 11-05-2012 America is a laughingstock of the civilized world. What of most of the other modern countries puts all their power lines above ground like heathens? Everyone else's shit is usually underground. Imagine if we went into debt for 16 trillion, but at least paid to have out power lines put underground? RE: Frankenstorm - Twitchin Kitten - 11-05-2012 we have underground lines in the city. They all flooded and shorted out. You can't always put the lines underground in some areas, like at the shore or in areas where the aquifer is not very far below ground, like the Jersey shoreline from Sandy Hook to Cape May. A storm like this laughed at underground power lines. RE: Frankenstorm - AnthonyG - 11-05-2012 I didn't say there isn't enough man power, I am just saying some of these fixes takes a ton of people, how they delegate the linemen and tree removal companies is a different story. Just cause you see a guy sleeping in his utility truck you shouldn't get pissed at him. I saw a lineman, his company was from Florida , his wife and kids drove up and they meet him for lunch each day while they stay at a hotel some where at their own expense not to mention. I bought them lunch and thanked him for his efforts, the utilities might not be managing the power outages right but these linemen work their ass's off and give up alot. RE: Frankenstorm - Twitchin Kitten - 11-07-2012 We finally got power around 10:30 this morning. Now it's fucking snowing. The retard behind me has no clue the power is on and that infernal generator is still running. |
