Crap, another bomb IMO.

This is the story of Margaret Thatcher as told from her memories through senility. The story was sorely lacking, dull and left us feeling "unfinished". It made her look like a feeble dolt in her old age and left us feeling sorry for her. It had an added twist of fiction (I hope it's fiction) of her seeing the ghost of her husband and living as if he's still there.

It's a story that could have been done much, much better.

Anything concocted by Hollywood is going to naturally be a Hit Piece on the Right. Its a given. And Thatcher is the best example of what a strong female can aspire to become, so she really must be demeaned at all costs.

Can't have her looking good for posterity, don't 'cha know.

The big thing here was why wasn't an English actress playing the role?

There was a generation that didn't know a Prime Minster could be a man and there was a big kick off when she had to step down.
I haven't bothered to see the film. She did nothing for me as far as I'm concerned although she was pro military and soldiers started getting a decent wage which helped us buy our first house.

She had one thing that is sorely missing in most people, and definitely in almost every politician: Moral Courage. That alone places her in the lofty realm of Greatness. Never forget that dear. She simply had the Right Stuff.

I've read that she ruined the economy and I don't hear many Brits defending or speaking about her in admiring tones.

Bullshit! If anything, her ability to take State owned industries and privatize them helped pull the country out of the Socialist/Collectivist mess it has gotten into. She was a certified follower of the 'von Hayek' school of economics.

England is still a terrible mess, and that is what you get for letting Labour(think Socialist) have enough time to fuck things up, and leave others to clean up their crap.


Like she so famously statee, "Socialism is wonderful, but eventually it runs out of other people's money". And she was absolutely correct.

I'm just telling you what I've heard. You're welcome to admire her but it sounds like many residents of the UK strongly disagree.

Bitterness remains

Thatcher tried to cut the size of the state. She sold off many state-owned assets like water and power companies, claiming their services would be delivered more efficiently in the private sector. They're certainly more expensive says local Labour councillor, Ian Selby.

"We've got electricity bills going up … astronomical increases: 20, 30 percent increases in some of these."

Selby is vehemently opposed to any plan to erect a Thatcher statue in Grantham. He says she failed the ultimate test of leadership: she did not unite the country, she divided it. But does he not at least feel some sneaking pride that a local women went on to achieve the highest office in the land?

"Proud? I'm definitely not proud," Selby says. "I'm actually embarrassed. When I go anywhere and people ask me where I come from and I say 'Grantham,' they turn around and say 'Ugh, that's where Thatcher came from isn't it?' And it's so, so embarrassing."

Of course Margaret Thatcher does have her supporters in Grantham. There are those who see her as the leader who arrested Britain's economic decline. And for some, she even became a feminist icon.

But that apparently did not endear her to many locals. One local paper asked its readers what they would like to see displayed at a prominent site in the town: a bronze statue of Margaret Thatcher or an antique steamroller. 85 percent voted for the steamroller.
