Hysterical Matt found his competition for audio/video work. He was his regular job installing alarms and this clown puts his little "flyer" on the door of the house they're working on.

Now, you tell me if you knew nothing about the industry, nor who to call and used website only as your guide to help make your decision, which one would you use?

Matt's site

The Competition

when making your decision, make sure you take note of where the images lead when you click on them for the visual. Don't know how to do that? Look at the address in the address bar Wink

Also note the address given in the competition's ad is NOT a legal business but his home.

and that's all I'm going to give you on what to compare because I want you to make an honest judgement / "decision". I just gave you this bit because I am not sure how many of you know to look at this stuff and the address you'd only know about if you were local.

I prefer that the home page of a business site have a brief description of the various services they provide.

Only one does that - "Matt's site".

"The Competition" has two "home pages" - one is "flash enabled" while the other is mostly HTML. Neither is a good front page, in my opinion.

So, if someone found the site either through a search or, say, from the side of a truck, only Matt's seems professional and descriptive.

Referrals/testimonials are very important in a "service" business, and I would recommend adding them.

Otherwise, I'd call Matt first.

We're working on those referrals and a sample house.
We could use Artie Lange (from Howard Stern fame) but he has too much stuff saying who he is all over the house and that would compromise his privacy. Can't do that.

We have a couple others we are going to line up and see if we can have access when needed. One of them is the brother in law of the owner of the NJ Devils hockey team. We're hoping to line that one up as it has a lot of really cool stuff Matt installed there.

Getting testimonials is nothing short of having to twist arms. People are lazy. They just don't do it no matter how much you ask. I probably should write up a few fake ones.

I read the testamonials all the time when shopping online. It has actually dissuaded me from buying a product. I guess those aren't testamonials, more like reviews, but I read them.

Unfortunately, Jamminitin, some of those "testamonials/reviews" are fake - written by competitors or detractors of the product/service or by the vendor themselves touting the virtues of the product/service.

If there are quite a few of them, though, you may be able to get a good idea about the product or service, though.

In any case, TK - I would certainly want to talk to a few clients if I was going to have a professional installation.

We already have references available. That's one of the first things I got set up.

I think the text on your main page looks a bit juvenile. Sorry, just my opinion. Didn't bother looking at the competition

Well, the text somewhat goes with the "Otta This World" logo.

Music & Technology Wizards

or

Outta This World Custom Electronics

or

OTW Custom Electronics

To me, "OTW Custom Electronics" sounds the most professional

Yeah but OTW would have to stand as initials for someone IMO. We do shorten to OTW for a lot of things.

Jammin, you need to look at the other site to give an honest opinion and get past the first page of Matt's.

We were aiming for that "Jetson's" feel of futuristic technology. You'd be amazed at what some of these high end homes have installed! It's insane.

The site for the competition is flashy. BUT......that also necessitates going through multiple clicks to find the information you're looking for. Then there is the fact of multiple clicks leading to even MORE clicks. As well it loads slower due to the flash graphics needing to run.

Matt's site is simple and to the point with much information there at a glance. Quick load. Easy to follow links to more information and they load quickly as well.

Advantage: Outta This World
