0 Yes, it is Agincourt. How did you manage to guess that one?
And no, it isn't Jilly, however, the site is very close to the Somme and some of the Battles of the Somme took place nearby. The field above is taken from the initial English position across from the French. Then since the French were not moving and blocking the way back to the English held port of Calais, the English advanced forward to begin the battle. The rest is history: the french sent waves of men who were slaughtered in the mud by Archers with arrows and then by Archers and Men-at-Arms who managed to maneuver easier in the muck. ending up an English victory with tons of French noblemen as captives, including the Marshal of France. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Agincourt Well, your pick now, TK!

0 LK - Yes
Jilly, technically Yes but most wouldn't think so due to modern times and people not referring to the area as such.

I always had the desire to be like Patrick Fermor and just walk across Europe seeing the sights from one end to the other. And most importantly, I would visit all the important and major battle sites along the way. So much history...I wish I could visit Agincourt myself, or Crecy, Poitiers, Ulm, Austerlitz, Waterloo, Fuentes de Onoro, Talevera, Vitoria, Blenheim, the beaches of Normandy, the Somme, Verdun, the Ardennes, and so forth. It'd probably take me years to properly visit them all. |
