Well, basically we're stuck. Here's the conversation:
You are now chatting with 'Conor'.
Matt: hello conor
Conor: Hello, thank you for contacting Xbox Customer Support. My name is Conor. Please give me a moment to review your question.
Matt: just so you know, this is not Matt but his wife Joan
Conor: No problem Joan. Apologies if you entered a description, due to some bugs with chat at the moment it hasn't come through. How can I help you though?
Matt: we're seriously considering packing this thing up and trading it in for a Wii.
Matt: we feel ripped off.
Matt: why on earth do i need to pay $60 a year to stream stuff off the internet, like Netflix? I already have a netflix account
Matt: and FiOS! I pay thru the nose for FiOS and I have to pay to use that?!
Matt: and the games - i waited a year for the xbox kinect feature only to find there are a handful of games that are all Kiddie oriented or dance oriented. bah
Conor: Well I'm very sorry to hear that Joan, I really am. As you can imagine though, as with all games consoles that are released, it is expected that there will be a limited number of titles available at launch, since developers must be familiar with the hardware before they can develop games with it.
Matt: explain the huge fee to stream what we already pay for.
Conor: Well the Xbox Live gold subscription isn't just for streaming movies. It grants you access to all features of Xbox Live, such as online gameplay, video chat with friends, special discounts on downloadable content, etc.
Matt: And i'm not buying the answer for the games. When xbox first came out, as with all the other consoles, there were a ton of games
Matt: We are not into that crap. I don't give a whit to chat on my tv with friends. we wanted to use it to stream netflix.
Matt: online gameplay? leave that for the 12 year olds
Matt: you - MS rather - offers no flexibility for everyone
Conor: Well that is your decision Joan, but that is the service we're offering, and it is a voluntary service that we are not forcing you to buy in to.
Matt: yeah. well I got a feeling Matt's going to feel the same and pack that thing up and return it.
Matt: All those hidden fees add up and are not worth the trouble
Conor: Well I respect your opinion Joan, and I am sorry that you feel that way. Do you have any other questions I might be able to answer for you though?
Matt: no. i just wasted 40 minutes of my life really. you offered no solution other than to tell me i'm stuck paying if i want to stream netflix as you lumped it in with all the other features.
Matt: thanks
