I often wonder if these animals know they are suffering.

Yes I know sometimes it is obviously that some animals are incarcerated unfairly and it should be dealt with promptly...but just sometimes I wonder the logic.

There is a Free Range Chicken farm on the way to the ferry for the island. The last two trips we had gone to say,
'Aww, look at all the Chookies scratching in the field'

Only to find them all on a fence post squashed together squabbling over space!
The farmer must despair.
