That has been going on for many years. They usually only do that crap to a criminal and yes it is intrusive and wrong but if my next door neighbor was a drug runner I would prefer that to a gun shootout. The story only makes the criminals become more aware and discrete. Just like any law that is mandated there will be more ways around it.
The same can be done with healthcare or tax law loopholes. The smarter criminal or law abiding citizen needs to protect their ass as has been happening since the beginning of civilization. I wonder if a painted line in a driveway saying do not pass would be legally binding. I had to throw away my welcome mat at my front door years ago...........
