0 TenFour, I dont' think it's a case of the Darwin Awards here.
Trudi, not over confidence either. I think it was just a tragic accident. The early morning news said he was doing some tricks with the thing and it lost control. We have quite a few areas in parks set up just for remote control planes. It's a huge thing around here.

0 Yeah I heard about this accident yesterday, my friend has the same trick level helicopter the kid had, I am not surprised by the decapitation. Most of those blades are usually made from composites or aluminum, I cut my finger open with little ease on one of my mini helicopters and it has a type of graphite blade.
Once they said it was a gas model it has me thinking the throttle stuck and the receiver malfunctioned or the fail safe module didnt kick in when the receiver battery died and it flew into him. I had a gas rc car and got out of radio range for a second and the thing took off and literally disintegrated on a curb. I only drive electric now because of that. Gas RC models have so much power when things go bad they go really bad for either the people around them or the model itself.

0 They have a small area set aside in Allaire State Park for those things. When we had a competition trail ride there the park was always coincidentally full of those things buzzing in the distance. It was quite loud and it always freaked out the horses.

0 Yeah gas rc stuff is loud as hell another reason I switched away from it, I dont know why people run the gas ones anymore except maybe for longer run times. The new brushless set ups are as good if not better then the gas now for tricks.

0 A freak accident to be sure.
Most of the time someone has a control issue with an RC aircraft, the vehicle is the recipient of all of the damage. He just happened to be at the precise place with the right circumstances for this to happen. I'd bet that the odds of being a sole winner of a 400 million plus Power Ball jackpot are better than of this type of accident occurring. Tragic. |
