Caddy XT5 vs Ford Edge - Twitchin Kitten - 01-29-2018

Right? The thing is that Cadillac has always been the epitome of luxury and performance and that little SUV was disappointing. My bare bones no frills Edge is so much better ride. Now I have not tried the sedans so I'm going to be fair and only gripe about that XT5 Biggrin

Co-worker bought a 2014 or 2015 Caddy sedan, don't know the model, 4cyl with a turbo.  It's a nice enough car, gadgets and gegaws galore.  He think it's quick, I'm not terribly impressed.  Plus a small coolant leak from a sensor caused the entire engine wiring harness to need to be replaced...

I do have to say that Caddy has the most brilliant spot for your phone. Their Cue system is flawless and there is never a need to grab your phone and yell at it like Ford's Sych. The center console stash box has a tiny slot just under the button to open the lid where you can slide your phone into. It's perfect. No wires all over, no stupid phone holder needed obstructing something or other because there just is no good place for it. Just a thin slot.

I don't think he has it linked to his phone, but he doesn't really need it. He is paying for XM radio and Nav, so it has everything he needs. He got it for a good price though.

Yeah but even without linking it, that slot is the most brilliant thing to stash the phone. I don't keep mine in my purse and I don't know out by you but here we get a $600 fine for using the phone while driving. It's illegal without hands free.

The Caddy gave you a choice between 4WD and AWD but the Edge does not. Keep in mind this is the bare bones basic version but the Edge handles in the snow way better. I put that Caddy on the curb coasting at like 10MPH through the neighborhood in 2" of snow. Stupid thing just scooted sideways.

Safety features while driving. OMG the seat buzzed every time someone was in my blind spot or it was unsafe for me to pass to the other lane. It was literally terrifying. You can't turn it off. At least they could have put the seat buzzer in the middle. just sayin'...

Ford's safety thing you can turn off and I did NOT order it in the Mustang. It's awful. It will vibrate the steering wheel and then jerk it out of your hands to correct. seriously? I'd be all kinds of jumpy and letting the damn thing go out of shock! It does have an adjustment of how aggressive you can have it, but no. just no.

I'm going to take all these comparing posts and put them in a new thread in the car section Smile

Ah, I will have to look for the phone slot.

His is AWD, but this winter has been pretty mild.  Not much chance to test it.

His does the seat vibrate thing, but not the wheel.  If someone is in the left blind spot, vibrates on the left, and same for right, vibrates on right.  When backing up, when I got close, it vibrated both.  Freaked me out the first time.  To be honest I am surprised that you can choose to not order these things.

It is nice, just not what I would have spent money on.  But then it IS his money lol!

Ford lets you turn them off too. I have all that bullshit turned off in the Edge. The mustang was the option. I think it's the "safe and smart package" that has that nonsense and it may be part of that new adaptive cruise control - which I did not need. I never use cruise control anyway, it's pretty pointless with a clutch and at 80MPH on a crowded highway. It's not as wide open here as it is by you.

What is just truly stupid and IMO a total scam by the people who make car starter units is that bullshit that the car turns off at a full stop and turns on again once you hit the accelerator. HOW that saves gas is beyond me AND what if you had to punch it to save yourself? That one or two seconds is a very long time in a situation like that. Ford allows me to turn that bullshit off and it's only available in automatic transmission vehicles. Heart my clutch!

Another thing that always bothered me about the 'auto shut-off' systems is wear and tear. Far and away the most wear on an engine is on start up. So now you are going to do it all the time?

Thank you Ford for allowing that option to be turned off!

It's got to be a scam to replace parts.

Took a bit of a ride today in the Edge. Gotta say the seats in the Caddy are WAY more comfortable. I can't feel my feet right now. ugh.
