So cleaning out the house in Michigan we stumble across a nice shotgun and this beauty!
You know we had to snag it!

We have no idea how old this is. Matt doesn't think his dad had it as a kid but it was lying around the attic or in a closet. Wonder how you date these things? It's in pretty good shape.

The Red Ryder came out in 1940.

They are still in production today.

I see the trigger assembly looks like a modern model so I'm going to guess it's no older than a 1980's or 1990's production run.

As well you need to check the magazine loading location. The old ones had a large cap on the barrel end and you unscrewed that to pour the BB's in. Newer models had either a slot in the magazine tube or the barrel. The newest have the slot in the barrel.

Also on the cocking lever, the new models go through 7 ratchet points where the old ones were one motion to the end.

Get some pics of the other side, front of the barrel and a closeup of the trigger area and I can be more accurate in dating it.

Mine is an old junker with mismatched bolts and screws in it, probably from some kid taking it apart to see what makes it work. I have no idea of the age, but it was old 30 years ago when I found it.
Wanna compare pics?

Yours is probably a 1960's production run.

Post some pics and I can give you an idea of how old it may actually be.
