BOOM! everything is fried - Twitchin Kitten - 07-09-2015
Last night I'm cooking dinner and Matt's looking out the back door and the whole house lit up, shook and threw him back a step. Lights went out. TV went out.
Cable box - fried. We lost all our shows and stuff.
Apple TV - fried. I can't even restore it.
Kitchen overhead light - blew out both bulbs and I'm hoping the fixture isn't fried.
There was smoke coming out of the ground at the house on the corner.

holy shit, that's about the best reaction i can think of atm. Carefully dig around where the lightning hit, you may find something cool

No marks on the ground where it hit. The fire marshal came and "inspected". The guy behind me is a fireman up north and he couldn't find anything either. He said if the ground absorbed the hit most likely it spread and you won't see anything. I figure it spread because we got fried. Dave next door had half his house blow the breakers.

ya I remember when I was living with my folks, lighting hit the house while I was in the room with the breaker box, threw sparks clear across the room, and scared the hell out of me.

Close strike and with most of your utility lines run under ground a good deal of the current made it into the grid.
So much stuff getting sizzled sucks ass.
