A little girl and her grandmother were hit and killed by a car running from police two years ago. Some lame loophole in NY law that says if anyone other than a family member calls any city authority for an emergency, basically exonerates the city from responsibility.

You misunderstand. The law states it has to be a family member or victim who calls the authorities that makes it direct contact. The police chase is what caused her death and they are blaming all that on the guy who hit them that was running from the cops.
IMO, it should be illegal to chase a criminal at high speed in the city. You go after him another way.

I "misunderstood" it on purpose, because it's bullshit. It was a statement dripping with gallons of sarcasm and frustration with the way the law fucks people all the time.

It isn't the only law on the books like that though. Especially across all the states. How's this for stupid: Michigan Law makes it a crime for a married woman to cut her hair without her husband's permission. It isn't enforced, but what the fuck?! Of course, then you look at the date it was codified, and it's back in the early or mid 1800s. Durr!
