Nilla - LKTraz - 08-03-2014 12 weeks ago this Tuesday our big Maine Coon gal Daisy had kittens. The one that's staying in our fold is Nilla. She's going to be a pretty big one herself, just like her mom. Here she is at 5 weeks old. We'll get some new pics of her in the next few days. RE: Nilla - TenFour - 08-04-2014 it has markings like a calico/tabby mutt, do those go away when it gets older? RE: Nilla - Twitchin Kitten - 08-04-2014 Cats are born with the markings and color they'll have forever. They don't grow out of them nor do they change over time. In fact, I've never had an old cat get gray hair like my dogs always did as they aged. Cute kitty LK! RE: Nilla - twisteroo - 08-04-2014 Yup, she's a cutie. RE: Nilla - LKTraz - 08-05-2014 I've had black cats pick up a FEW grey or white hairs as the get old but that's about it. She's snoozing on the bench next to me right now. For reference the table leg in the pic is the same one as the pic when she was 5 wks old. RE: Nilla - Twitchin Kitten - 08-05-2014 She looks like a brown mackerel tabby without any signs of tori or calico coloring. Yes? No? just the camera angle in the new pic not picking it up? RE: Nilla - LKTraz - 08-05-2014 She is in fact a grey tabby. The colors on the earlier pics were just lighting tricks. RE: Nilla - Twitchin Kitten - 08-05-2014 They don't classify gray (grey) tabbies. See if you can find something here. There's a myriad of things online where you can find coat color classifications for cats and from my quick preliminary look today, there are new tabby colors listed. The only one listed as gray would have lilac in it making it more like a party colored calico or torti. From my days showing cats, I was taught that anything gray is considered blue and tabbies come in classic stripe or mackerel stripe. Anything obviously gray like the American Shorthair would be called silver. Lemme dig in some of my old links I hope I have saved from my pet care website venture. RE: Nilla - Twitchin Kitten - 08-05-2014 LOL that was quick. I did save my links. I'm going to sticky the link to the page too. It's nice to have info like this handy. http://www.seregiontica.org/Colors/intro.htm RE: Nilla - LKTraz - 08-05-2014 Ok then...she is a silver mackeral tabby. |
