Applebees feeds vets today too.
I don't even have any way to prove I'm a vet unless I carry around my dd214.

They'll accept the DD214. Don't you have a VA card? Go get your ass down to your local VA and apply for benefits. Even if you don't use them, at least you have backup insurance and all kinds of shit.

Still bothers me sometimes that I couldn't serve for medical reasons. I was all set to be a Marine right out of HS but couldn't pass the physical because of my back/neck issues, especially since back then it still caused me blackouts somestimes.

There's a bit of discussion in this house about people who are treating active duty personnel as veterans. That's kind of pissing me off. Veteran is a past tense declaration for one who has served and is not active.
Active duty will have their Veterans Day once they are done with their enlistment. They deserve respect daily, but not to glom onto those who've done their time.
And I'm also sick of hearing "Happy Memorial Day". There's nothing happy about remembering our fallen.
Is this really that difficult to understand?

For some it is hard guys. I find it hard to celebrate vetarans day. I get the sentiment that all are grateful they survived. That civilians are thanking the veterans. But I mourn the loss of so much personally and for their families though they are survivors.
