Quote:Helgen said his team first saw the animal in the Andes in 2006 and have been constructing its family history ever since.

yeah thats not a fucking new discovery then.[/quote]

RE: Olinguito - new mammal species found - Twitchin Kitten - 08-18-2013

How can you say that?

Quote:He said the species "was completely overlooked by all zoologists until now."
Quote:Helgen said he was also announcing four subspecies of the olinguito. He said the animal thrives in its cloud-forest habitat and is not considered an endangered species. The zoologist said the olinguito has been the subject of mistaken identity for years. He noted that at least one of them had been held in zoos in the U.S. in the 1960s and 1970s, but no one realized it was a new species and not an olingo.

It is when you think how long it takes to prove it isn't a sub species of a Raccoon (as an example)
You need to see the Natural History Museum sometime

(it is quite cuddly looking- although I wouldn't want to risk it)

I can do that for free, give me a baby of each species, one make and one female. I'll stick them in a cage and feed them table scraps for awhile. If they breed then there's your answer. Meanwhile there is no cure for cancer.

No it's gonna taste like a raccoon. The article said they are in the same family. Just like if you fry up some grey squirrel and some red fox squirrel you can't tell which is which on the table.
