Athens Grill - Twitchin Kitten - 09-12-2011 Well I was going to put this in the Made Members area but I figure that the search engine spiders would best pick up the key words and hopefully promote this restaurant. Athens Grill. Freakin' AWESOME Greek food. It's been around for a few years and we went in infrequently. The owner was really nice but not Greek and he had what looked like his young relatives cooking for him. We couldn't think of what to eat last night so I suggested that. Turns out that the place had been sold about 3 months ago to real Greeks and OH MY GOD THE FOOD IS FREAKIN' AWESOME. We gorged ourselves. We ordered a $60 platter for two. Goddamn thing could have fed four easily and this time, the food was done right. The bed of eggplant the meat was on top of was to absolutely die for. We have enough left over that Matt took it for lunch today and still enough for dinner tonight. Extra tzatziki sauce by the pint to take home and olives. We have dinner for later. Just going to run out to the Indian boys and get some good pita bread. It's so nice to find a place where they honestly know how to cook Mediterranean food. So many times I've been disappointed and felt I wasted money on swill I cook better at home. I used to think I was too critical but trust me, I'm not. You can follow a recipe but if you don't know what the food is supposed to taste like, you can't even come close to making it taste right! RE: Athens Grill - Gunnen4u - 09-12-2011 There is a place in Sierra Vista, AZ, called my Big Fat Greek Restaurant. Aside from the dumb name, its a piece of amazing in the middle of nowhere, especially doing something like Greek food. My hand got lit on fire and I smashed a few plates with their endorsement. I am not a lamb fan, but the lamb there...Jesus wept. There was a place in El Paso started by some Iraqis brought back by the Army. Forgot the name of the place, but it was a food orgasm going in there if you like Arab stuff. Someday I will travel the Mediterranean. |
