Red Arrows Tragedy - Rhubarb - 08-21-2011

Not sure where to put this, knowing there ar ea few aircraft buff on here.

We went to London to celebrate our friends birthday at his daughters house yesterday. Her brother-in-law (we also know very well) came up to us and said he had just got news about the Bournemouth Air Show.

The show runs every year over 5 days, we don't bother too much with it ourselves, but this dreadful news was happening while we were at the party.

Yeah, it was a bad weekend for air shows. Your accident started our weekend off all over the news here and then we had two deadly accidents here that were not military air shows, but one stunt guy from Michigan, a wing-walker who fell off his plane trying to grab onto a helicopter picking him up and another one in Kansas City, where the plane crashed.

Air shows are always somewhat risky and dangerous.

Sad to hear when things like this happen though.

My Dad was particularly saddened because he saw them perform the day before. The first time he has seen them do a full routine for once in perfect weather.

He said they finished with 8 aircraft flying off in formation into the horizon and the ninth flew over the beach and then looped back as the formation returned in the shape of a heart. The ninth then flew through the formation with a red smoke line and the others in white to leave a framed heart in the sky for the Heart Foundation Trust, the charity they were flying for that day.

He had a brilliant day by the sounds of things, but now the Red Arrows are grounded until checks have been done. The pilots asked the show continue on the Sunday even though The Black Darts withdrew out of respect initially (former Red Arrow pilots). The Black Darts flew the slot the Arrows should have flown after a minute silence.

Dee (she's a Red Arrows Babe) went to the beach for the minute silence and to sign the book at the Promenade. She said the beach was packed, standing room only with thousands of people and not one sound was heard, everyone respected the silence. She said with only the sea and the gulls it was spooky.
