Designer dogs/Mixed breeds vs Mutts - LKTraz - 03-31-2011 I found a couple of pages with some definitive answers on mixed breed and designer dogs versus mutts. I remember Twitch bitching about homeowners insurance underwriters having shit fits over certain breeds including mixes they considered to be breeds and the difficulty explaining a "mutt" to them. Let's start with this quote from one of the pages: "What's the difference between a designer dog and a mutt? Generally, a mutt is of uncertain ancestry. A designer dog has documented purebred ancestry, and one knows for sure what it is." The complete page Here is a list of hybrid/designer dogs from the same site: Hybrid/designer dog list I DO like this statement: "Please Note: A hybrid dog is not a BREED, it is a hybrid, which means it is a mix of more than one purebred dog." This information just might give you some ammunition to detonate up the asses of those shitheel insurance weenies Twitch!!!!! RE: Designer dogs/Mixed breeds vs Mutts - Twitchin Kitten - 03-31-2011 Designer dogs now have a designer explanation of what they are. They are still mutts. Mixed breed = mutt. It's not a pure breed of any one type of dog. RE: Designer dogs/Mixed breeds vs Mutts - Aurora Moon - 06-08-2012 Hmm, so my dog would had been called a dalmador. She's the black type, with that white throat stripe going down her chest. generally, I tend to believe that cross-breeds tend to be far more healthy than purebreeds. since how they have a higher tolerance to diseases, disorders, etc. pure-breeds have higher risk of cancer and tumors; eye and heart disease ; joint and bone disorders; skin , immune system and neurological diseases; and even epilepsy. not to mention they're often so inbreed that their family tree is hardly a tree at all... it's just one branch going upwards. honestly, the only thing they have going for them is their "beauty". and I have to say, there's plenty of beautiful and cute mutts out there.... so why even go with a pure-breed at all? I think pure-breeds are completely overrated. RE: Designer dogs/Mixed breeds vs Mutts - Twitchin Kitten - 06-09-2012 I had to laugh a little at this. So many people have the misconception that mutts are healthier than pure bred dogs. It is not true. You can say what you described, Aurora for any breed, any species, purebred or not. You can get the worst of both worlds when you have a mutt as well. A good breeder will not only line breed but they will find suitable mates to enhance and strengthen the breed. Shit backyard breeders who only breed for money are the culprits of poor genetics. This is why there is such a stink to outlaw puppy farms. I still stand by my statement that a mutt is a mutt no matter what you call it. I believe this is a scheme concocted up to make money on something should be free. |
