AARP? - Twitchin Kitten - 02-23-2011 Anyone belong to the AARP? Is it worth it? Do you get any decent breaks in insurance and stuff like that? Mortgage rates? They have been sending me shit to join for 5 years now. I'm not thrilled about some of their political policies - I feel they should stay out of politics. My mom says she had them for all of a year and let her membership expire because the perks are minimal and not worth the membership fees. RE: AARP? - LKTraz - 02-23-2011 I will let my membership expire. Unless you spend a good amount of time in motels or eat at the particular restaurants they work with you really don't get any real benefit from them. Their insurance "discounts"? Shit......I get better rates by shopping around. WAY better rates!!! They REALLY pissed me off when they were exposed as simpering, slobbering, pandering Obama supporters and when they came out in support of the travesty that is "Obamacare" that tore it. Seems that they stand to profit HUGELY from the legislation in that they are the sole carrier of the supplemental insurance that will be necessary for most when the provisions of that piece of shit take hold!!!!!!! Fuck them. I intend to get my money's worth and then some out of them if I can and then send them my card in shreds with a letter telling them how I feel and where they can shove their organization! RE: AARP? - Twitchin Kitten - 02-23-2011 yeah, you pretty much summed up why I haven't joined yet. Some asshole judge just decided the health care bill is legal. Don't ask me who, I didn't pay any attention. I think the next stop is the Supreme Court of the USA. I hope they kill it. I can't afford it. RE: AARP? - LKTraz - 02-24-2011 Here's the alternative to Arrogant Assholes Reaping Profits. Generation America Scroll down the page to the list of participating businesses near the bottom of the page and you will see that there are some more COMMON participants. I for one intend to join here. Looks like much better benefits. AARP has always been, in reality, a PAC but they disguised themselves under the guise of "helping" those who are older (for lack of a better term) people. Generation America comes right out and tells you that they are political advocates. Look on their home page and see where they stand with respect to legislation and the direction they are looking. RE: AARP? - Twitchin Kitten - 02-24-2011 Well, right now that doesn't fit me either. I'd be paying for benefits for things I don't use and restaurants I don't go to. Restaurant.com is a joke. My brother signed up with that and he got nothing but ripped off with it. I won't do that to another restaurant. I won't buy from Omaha Steaks again either. Too expensive and I can get more meat from Sam's or Cosco and actually fill my freezer full of good meat cheaper. Health and beauty is a joke too. I am sure they'll get more as they grow but for now, I'll just stick with nothing. Thanks for the link and info though, I WILL be watching it as it grows. RE: AARP? - LKTraz - 03-01-2011 For me I think Advance Auto Parts (shit I spend enough with them that I should damn near own a franchise by now), Wally World and PetSmart will be worthwhile with the membership. I'm gonna join as soon as I get my $$$ worth from AARP or my card expires......whichever comes first. |
