At the Flyer Game - Twitchin Kitten - 02-11-2011
OK so we took the Ipod touch to the game last night to play around a little.
Had a nice dinner at Houlihan's and then off to the game.
We thought we had the "usual" club box seats but we go to the escalator to go up and we are told to go around to section 121 to the VIP elevator. I'm thinking, "Oohh nice! Mom did good."
Turns out we are in the Luxury Balcony suites. We are passing suite after suite peeking in and seeing a spread of food out, snacks like chips, dips and what not and I'm getting all 'giddy' that we really lucked out! I know these suites are sold at $4000.00 per night and with a minimum of 12 people to fill the room.
We get to our suite - #7. It's empty. No snacks. All cabinets are locked. There is a TV, computer and phone. We are on the friggin ceiling! Literally, we can touch the catwalks. Its higher up than the shittiest seats in the house.
The speakers are up IN OUR FACE. My ears hurt. You will see in my little 'crummy' of our seats:

Our attendant comes in and takes orders - 20 minutes after we settle in.
We ask for a coke - "you have to buy a whole six pack" Fuck that! We're two people, what the hell are we going to do with a six pack? Never mind the long ride home to Jersey full of soda!
So I say forget it. He walks out with an attitude.
The other people sharing out suite feel the same.
So the game finally starts and now you can tell how it really sucks. You can't hear anything from the ice! No player chatter. No puck to stick 'clack', no slam into the boards, nothing. I felt so disconnected.
So we sat and watched the ants - I mean the game:

First intermission and we take a walk looking for coffee. I remember on the club box level (the good level) there was a bistro that served pastries and coffee. Damn good coffee too. We go out hunting it down. Guess what? The Bistro is now a nasty pizza and snack bar charging too much money for shitty stadium food. They charge more than the regular stadium food because they fancy it up and put tables outside in the aisle. Same hot dogs, same nasty pizza, same dry, hard 'soft" pretzels.
I see the maitre'd at the Cadillac Grill (shudda had dinner there!) and asked him what happened to the Bistro and coffee? He says to try the one on the other side.
So, we hike across the stadium to the opposite side and it's the same nasty shit. I see an attendant at one of the club box doors and ask her. I also ask her how she can stand the stink from the nasty shit in that "Bistro". She says it's truly unbearable. I wish I had smell-o-vision for you on the stink of nasty food!
So, we go back to our seats with no coffee.
Second period was wasted hunting down coffee. Good thing it was a really boring game. No score so far. All the ice time is on the Carolina side though. Flyers are dominating the game with ease.
So, second intermission comes and we find someone who tells us that all the pretzel and hot dog stands have coffee. Only place to find it now in the stadium.
So, down to mezzanine level and halfway around the stadium, we find a hot dog stand and what looks like a fresh pot of joe. It was mud
but not too terrible and it was HOT. Not warm, but nice and hot. We get two cups and a pretzel. Back to our seats and as we exit the elevator - we get this lovely view (sorry for the poor quality, it was on the fly so not to get caught):

Yeah, I hear ya on the vertigo. It was really high up. They dont' even show these boxes on the TV. The press box and the manager's boxes are on the club level.

Cool! I'm going to the Bruins/Maple leaf game the 31st and There is nothing better than being there as compared to watching on T.V. ..........Lucky you!

The Spectrum is still standing. Busted up but still standing. I loved the Spectrum. Lots of good memories out of that building.
