New version of Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer to be released - Twitchin Kitten - 01-05-2011

This is ridiculous. They are now going to mass edit the classic stories of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn to remove all racial epithets. The books have been dropped from school curriculum because of these and the new versions will make the stories more acceptable.
I call bullshit. These classic pieces of literature may be racist in their language but it needs to be that way because back then, it was the reality of the times. How can you change these things and still keep the correct story? This is just over the top.

I agree with your call of bullshit. If we pretend something didnt happen/wasn't like that it really wasn't? We can't change the past for fucks sake, we can only learn from it.

Hiding the facts of history, even in a fictitious story will not change it nor will it help anyone new to the story to better adopt it. The fact remains that people talked like that toward those of other colors, whether their skin was black, "yellow" or "red". Changing it is not going to help delicate emotions.
