So I know a lot of people have a fear of bats and I can see where that can come from, since the bats that you typically think of probably aren't the most attractive or friendly. But if you don't think this little bat is cute then I'm sorry there's really something much more serious wrong with you.

At just 37-47 mm long, this teeny-tiny bat reminds me of those marshmallows you put in your hot cocoa.

These little marshmallows are quite the craftsmen which is why their other name is the Honduran White Tent Bat. They cut the side veins of the Heliconia plant, causing them to fold down and form a large "tent." They cling to the roof of the tent in small colonies (usually around a dozen) with one male and several females.

This bat really had a "camping theme" going on. Tents. Marshmallows. What a cute animal!

They're so damn cute they don't even look real.

RE: Honduran White Bats - Twitchin Kitten - 10-23-2010

They look like the little fur mousies Sofie plays with.

They look like they have some pretty good eyes on them. I thought bats couldn't see so well or something like that?

RE: Honduran White Bats - Twitchin Kitten - 10-24-2010

They probably use radar like all other bats and are most likely equipped with shitty vision.

Actually bats don't have as crappy vision as most people believe. Rather they have a bad FIELD of vision. They have a rather narrow field both peripherally and vertically. Kinda like tunnel vision and their acuity is not very good at distances over 50 feet. Their sonar is their main hunting and targeting tool. They are rather light sensitive too.

I gotta say that these are the cutest little flying rodents I've ever seen!

I like having bats around. They are the best natural insect control going!
There is a small bat colony behind my house and in recent years the population has greatly decreased. I was ready to put some bat boxes out when the population started making a comeback on its own so I just let nature take its course. There are now around a dozen of them and I hope they keep increasing in number till they reach their former level. (around 40 or so)

You won't believe all the hits I get from google searches for these things.
