NO Plastic for California Groceries - BarEdul - 08-31-2010

California is leading the nation now on the news tonight in banning plastic bags at the check out! There will be a 5 cent charge for paper bags or you have to bring your own re-usable bags.

Now pro plastic side of the arguement says that we will use too many trees up if we switch back to paper. After all California uses 19 billion bags per year alone. Some cities are already banning the plastic bags....

Remember folks.... its all eco challenging to begin with... lets see where this ends up next.. oh yes fruit and meat bags for storage are excluded you just cant carry your groceries in plastic it seems.

Someone has to make those damn bags, somebody has a job because of those bags, someone gets to drive a garbage truck to take those bags to the landfill. They should be careful what they ask for, banning those bags will put people out of work.

Really though, what's the big deal about the plastic bags? Oooooohhhh...they last 700 years in the landfill. To that I say....HOW THE FUCK DO YOU KNOW??? Did you bury one 699 years ago and dug it up today? Fuck that, even if they do last 700 years or whatever they say, does it really matter in the big scheme of things? They might be mining for those damn bags in the old landfills in 1000 years for all we know.

PS: I have some of those cloth bags in my car and truck, sometimes they are just easier.

Most of today's plastic bags are bio-fucking-degradable! Don't believe me? Sit one outside for about 6 months with something in it heavy enough to hold it down. After that try to pick it up. It will fall apart.

This is nothing more than ECOfreaks flexing their influence just to make themselves "feel good" and inconveniencing everyone else.

I kinda like those plastic bags, I can carry my lunch in one every day and send it to the landfill and don't have to bring it back home, or you know, like just throw it out the car window.Biggrin

Ah well the brilliant young lady on TV mentioned that they were blowing around on the streets like "THEY were TRASH or something" of course .... I can't vouch for her brilliance.

What a flippin' joke. Seriously!!!!

I tried to buy some of those tote cardboard boxes the grocery stores sells and I couldn't find any. WTF. Is cardboard banned too?

If they ban those plastic bags, what am I going to clean out the litter box with? For shit's sake, I'm RECYCLING! I'm pissed that FoodTown here closed, now I'm stuck with ShopRite or Stop and Shop and their bags SUCK. They're so small they're useless. You use more of the plastic bags than you do with paper. I usually take paper when my stash of litter bags is full. I can pack more in them and use half as many bags. Plus the paper always made great book covers for school.

If the major problem is them ".....blowing around like trash or something....." then the problem isn't the bags, it's the fucking people!

Plastic bags do not CAUSE littering...slob people do!

Ah but you see that would mean we (the general public) would have to be responsible citizens... isn't that a bitch?

My cats are in favor of the old paper grocery bags.
Whenever Officemax has a sale and give you a paper bag with the newspaper they love to play in it.
