Wait, I thought you had a mess of cats? You showed photos of your son playing with them in the woods.
Chickens are actually nice to have around. They eat ticks and other bugs out of the lawn and you get eggs all the time unless it gets brutally hot outside.
They're not like ducks or geese where they shit all over where you walk too. Get the big ones, Rhode Island Reds and I forget the name of them, but they're big and speckly and gray. Guinea hens are fun too. Big tick eaters and they lay tiny eggs.

They're gorgeous SuZ!
My friend used to keep Danes but they just don't live very long and it was hard on her emotionally. She switched to terriers and bulldogs and now keeps an American Bulldog named Maya.

I know they only live up to like 7 or 8 years. These are my first 2 and they are both turning 1 in March.
They are amazing with awesome personalities, they really turn heads when we go for a walk
It will break my heart if they must die, so I understand where your friend is coming from. Thing is that danes feel like children.
