Good job!

As well as discovering and marketing the first truy successful formula for milk chocolate, Milton Hershey founded a school for orphaned and problem children which is still in operation today.

He also founded a teaching hospital which now paired with Penn State University came up with the first functional artificial heart.

The town of Hershey,Pa was named after him and contains not only the hospital and chocolate factory but also a major arena, Hershey Park amusement park, the Chocolate World Museum, a 5 star award winning hotel, the Pennsylvania State Police Training Facility and several cultural attractions including an art museum and amphitheater.

(I picked him due to the fact that I'm only a 45 minute drive from Hershey and I'm very familiar with his story)

Ok Jilly....give us a good one!

I was a day late and a dollar short for the answer

RE: General Who Am I/Are We - Jilly - 10-30-2009

Okay..here we go.....

I am a British / Australian author of many novels.
I was born in London late 1800s.
My most famous novel depicted the `end of the world`.
This novel was also made into a famous film starring Gregory Peck.

Full name please ( not pen name)
Name of novel gets you an extra hug !!

RE: General Who Am I/Are We - ralgith - 10-30-2009

I'm stumped.

But a cool bit of triva about Peck is that he has twice starred in remakes of movies he was originally the lead in.
Moby Dick - Ahab (original, 1956) and Father Mapple (1998)
Cape Fear - Sam Bowden (original, 1962) and Lee Heller (1991)

As far as I know he has only been in 2 movies about the end of the world, The Omen in 1976 (Not based on a novel, but novelized by the screenplay writer at the same time), and On The Beach in 1959, which is about a nuclear holocaust destroying the world.

Wait, you almost tricked me! It IS "On the Beach"! Author was born in 1899 rofl. The 1800's threw me and I was looking at older authors who fit the description.

Author's name: Nevil Shute Norway, and he went by just Nevil Shute.

Detailed enough for you? Biggrin

Your turn !!

This English author was born in the 1400s. Many believed him to be Welsh, but in more recent times most scholarship believes otherwise. Twice elected to a seat in Parliament, he also accrued a long list of criminal charges during the 1450s, including burglary, rape, sheep stealing, and attempting to ambush a Duke.
